There's been a lot going on this week. We received our shipment of prairie seed from Prairie Moon. It came in one large cardboard box. We'll wait until the ground thaws in April before we sow it.
Afton Forest Preserve, DeKalb, Co.
I met with Terry Hannan, the DeKalb County Forest Preserve superindendant, this week and installed 3 Eastern Bluebird boxes at Afton Forest Preserve. It was fun hearing stories about the early days of Afton. In 1979 they had a small herd of Buffalo that escaped when the terrible snowstorm during that winter created snow drifts high enough for the Buffalo to walk over the fence!
Prairie Smoke
Kim and I also made a lot of progress on our crate for the Unpacked/Offset Crate project at the NIU Art Museum. The show opens Tuesday! We purchased 15 Prairie Smoke plants from The Natural Garden nursery in St. Charles, IL which will be installed in the the crate for the show, then planted in the prairie restoration at the farm. If you happen to be in DeKalb March 25 - May 10, stop by the NIU Art Museum in Altgeld Hall and check out our piece.
