Summer Digiscoping

Yesterday I had the chance to do some digiscoping, and got some new bird species to add to the gallery. I first found a young Indigo Bunting that was perched on a dead Bur Oak tree limb that fell during a storm this spring. He/she was really cooperative, and even sang for awhile.

Then an Eastern Wood-Pewee perched on the same limb for a brief moment. I was able to get one photo before it took off.

Then an Eastern Kingbird decided to pop in for a visit.

This dead oak tree limb turned out to be a great place to digiscope, and I sat there still for about an hour waiting to see what birds would show up. It was great to sit and enjoy the sun rise, filling the woods with light, and listen to the bird song. These past few months have really felt non stop, and this was the first time this summer I've just sat, watched and listened. And look at the wonderful beauty that came to share in my experience.

One final bird, that wasn't as easy to digiscope, but nonetheless just as beautiful, was this Cedar Waxwing which was constantly flitting around the pines in search of food.

On a final note, the garden is starting to bear its first ripe vegetables. We picked lettuce, basil, cilantro, and green beans.

Me picking cilantro. Hmmm, can't wait for fresh salsa!
