Rode Like An Egyptian

Today I participated in the 1st Annual Ride Like An Egyptian bike ride to raise money for the Egyptian Theater in downtown DeKalb. Riders could choose to ride 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles. I opted for the 50 miler, but due to some last minute course changes, and one missed turn, I ended the day at a whopping 64 miles, by far my longest single day ride.

The weather was perfect, little to no breeze, sunshine, blue sky, and the rural roads were mostly free of traffic. My route took me from the Egyptian Theater in DeKalb to Maple Park, a small town ~12.5 miles east of DeKalb. From the rest area there, I headed generally south and east towards Kaneville (where I missed the turn arrow), then looped back towards Maple Park, then west towards the finish at the theater. Roughly 150 riders participated in this inaugural event.
