My good friend Pete called me this afternoon to let me know he had spotted an Eastern Screech-Owl sleeping in a conifer tree on the Northern Illinois University campus. We often refer to Pete as "Eagle Eyes" for his sharp vision and ability to spot birds. We met Kim at the university and enjoyed a nice, close view of the owl for about 20 minutes in good sunlight. Amazingly, this owl is able to find peace and quiet near a busy university road. Lucky for the owl, very few people have the same knack for spotting birds as Pete and it (hopefully) remains relatively undisturbed.

Wow, isn't he gorgeous!!! I am patiently waiting for a pair of western screech owls to inhabit my new nesting box here in the Sangre De Cristo mountains of new mexico. I currently have a pair of eastern screech owls who have been using my nest box very successfully over the past 5 yrs at my home in Dallas Texas.
